Position Title: School Director

Reports To: Governing Board
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Position Overview

The School Director serves as the chief executive and educational leader of the Waldorf/AI Charter School and is responsible for faithfully advancing the school’s mission while ensuring full compliance with Utah charter school law and State Board of Education requirements. The Director leads with vision, integrity, and collaboration, cultivating a school culture rooted in whole-child development, academic excellence, and strong partnerships with families and the community.

This role blends inspired leadership with operational accountability, guiding the school’s growth while honoring both the Waldorf/AI philosophy and the responsibilities of a public charter school.

Essential Responsibilities

Educational & Instructional Leadership

  • Champion the school’s Waldorf/AI educational model while ensuring alignment with Utah Core Standards and assessment requirements.

  • Oversee curriculum development, instructional quality, and student performance in accordance with the school’s charter.

  • Support, supervise, and evaluate instructional staff consistent with Utah educator standards and school policy.

  • Foster a learning environment that nurtures intellectual, social, emotional, and creative growth.

Charter Compliance & Accountability

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Utah State Board of Education rules, charter agreements, federal requirements, and reporting deadlines.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the school’s authorizer.

  • Lead charter renewal preparation, annual reporting, and compliance audits.

  • Implement policies and procedures that meet public school governance and accountability standards.

Operational & Financial Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations including enrollment, staffing, scheduling, facilities, and student services.

  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Governing Board, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.

  • Ensure adherence to public procurement, financial controls, and risk management requirements.

  • Support sustainable growth and long-term organizational health.

Family, Community, & Partnership Leadership

  • Cultivate authentic partnerships with parents as co-educators in the child’s development.

  • Build a vibrant, connected school community grounded in shared values and trust.

  • Represent the school in the broader community and establish meaningful community partnerships.

  • Communicate clearly, consistently, and transparently with families and stakeholders.

Governance & Strategic Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with the Governing Board to carry out the school’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

  • Provide timely, accurate reports to the Board related to academics, operations, finance, and compliance.

  • Support ethical governance, clear roles, and effective decision-making.

  • Lead with accountability, reflection, and service to the school community.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Experience in school leadership, administration, or charter school operations.

  • Knowledge of Utah charter school law, governance, and public education requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex systems, and inspire community trust.

Preferred

  • Experience with Waldorf education, arts-integrated, or whole-child educational models.

  • Utah administrative licensure or eligibility to obtain.

  • Experience working with charter authorizers and governing boards.
